Volunteer

Would you like to join our hardworking band of friendly volunteers to help power the Chelsea Fringe Festival?

The Chelsea Fringe is an alternative garden festival primarily based in London, but with events across the UK and beyond. The Festival is an open-access platform and is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) run entirely by volunteers. We showcase all kinds of projects from guerrilla gardeners, community growing initiatives, botanical art collaborations and spontaneous performance happenings.

We are currently looking for volunteer project coordinators to help support our new projects, marketing, PR and prospecting teams.

Depending on your skills and interests you will support various projects in the build-up to their participation in the festival

This is a fantastic opportunity to share your current skills and learn new ones first hand amidst our growing network of contacts and Fringe Festival supporters.

Its an exciting time to join the team behind the Chelsea Fringe Festival – “the UK’s fastest growing fringe festival” – Fringe Festival Network.

Please contact us at: info@chelseafringe.com

Here are some of the FAQs our new volunteers ask:

1. What does volunteering at The Chelsea Fringe Festival involve?  As a Chelsea Fringe project coordinator your job is to act as the main Fringe Festival contact for horticultural event organisers and designers who are aiming to get their projects off the ground. You can help facilitate the projects, while also monitoring their progress and reporting back to Chelsea Fringe HQ. All volunteers will also be expected, when possible, to attend committee meetings, update our internal database and regularly meet up with your relevant project, marketing or PR team.

2. How much time will I need to dedicate to the volunteer role? How much time you give the Fringe Festival is entirely up to you. But we expect our project coordinators, marketing or PR volunteers to spend on average 2 – 4 hours per week working on their projects.

3. Who can I contact if I need help? We have teams covering London and our satellite festivals who will be your first point of contact and source of support. We also have specialist marketing, finance and PR teams on hand to help. Please also let us know if your circumstances change or you need extra support and feel you are not able to continue helping out.

4. How do I decide which events I am working on?
All project enquiries are distributed equally amongst the active teams.

5. How do I keep up to date with everything that is going on with the Chelsea Fringe? We have an internal project database, regular committee meetings and updates that will keep you in the loop of all that is happening.

6. I am not very good on the computer/email- can I still help? Yes, there are lots of roles that you could still help with at the Chelsea Fringe Festival. Perhaps  joining our marketing “seedmobbers”!

7. Do I have to be a gardener to help with the Chelsea Fringe? No. You just have to love working with people and helping them bring their ideas to life and watching the public enjoy new green spaces.

8. What costs might I incur? We don’t expect you to incur any costs. A lot of your communication can be via email. If you decide to call your project or incur a cost for the journey to visit your project, event or meetings, unfortunately Chelsea Fringe cannot cover these costs since we are a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC).

9. What if I live outside London? The Chelsea Fringe Festival concept is growing and we currently also have satellite festival teams needing new volunteers operating in Cambridge, Brighton, Bristol, Kent and Italy!

We love these drifts of tiny toadstools, emerging in abundance in areas of the Garden that were left undisturbed this summer. Magical!
